Frank Gehry Designed Walt Disney Concert Hall LA (2003)
The Disney Concert Hall in LA is definitely not a shy building. It is this boldness of design that is such an inspiration. Frank Gehry himself is of great interest. The architects ability to go from a rough sketch into a precise model is astounding. Something that makes this piece of architecture even more interesting is the highly polished mirror-like panels that surrounds the Children's Ampitheatre and the Founders Room. This material differs to that of the stainless steel that coats the rest of the structure. It was this material that caused direct glare from the sunlight to affect surrounding houses. This resulted in excessive heat causing air conditioning prices to dramatically increase as well as creating hot spots on the footpaths. However after various complaints the issue was rectified through sanding the panels to dull them. |
